  1. Went on a 5000mile, 18day road trip, Seattle to "Alaska". One of the major highlights was Grizzlies feeding on chum and pink salmon at Fish Creek, Hyder AK. Grizzlies eating Salmon Seattle-AK Full Trip Vid, long, lol.
  2. Thanks, in the end went with the MacBook air at 256 and purchased a couple of external SSD hard drives. Regardless it seems to be working much better than the 2014 version, lol.
  3. Love live-aboards but looking to keep costs down, somewhat, lol. Any suggestions for good all inclusive Fiji shore op??? Both of us are photographers and enjoy a mix of reefs and critters. Great if they have a house reef and 3 dives per day minimum. Thanks!
  4. We have been twice and loved it, but it has been awhile. A couple general comments. First there are very strict rules, as mentioned above, when you are in the water with the whales. One is you must stay on the surface. Understandable as they don't want everyone diving down for a "better shot". Another is you are not supposed to "chase" the whales especially the calves. This is more subjective. Both reasonable due to all the idiots out there. We had rough weather on one trip and I just ducked down 3ft trying to get out of the choppy waves and the captain of our boat had me sit out a round as a penalty. First time we went with a fairly well known underwater photographer and the actuall operator was what I would call photographer friendly. The boat was set up for 6 people with large camera systems, big rinse tanks, baskets for cameras, room for those with free diving fins. On choppy days they accepted if you were a few feet under the surface to avoid getting bounced around. The second operator came highly recommended and said they were very familiar with photogs. They had one small rinse tank for masks, fins and cameras. They insisted you leave your camera in the tank even when the boat was moving. Again we had rough weather and when I tried to store my camera under my seat it became an "issue". On the second day a Conde Nast photographer's housing was cracked, camera flooded, total loss. The carrier grudgingly allowed people to store cameras under their seating but you had to bring your own towel to stabilize it. They were very strict about sticking to the rules, which is a good thing. Even when I had a calve come up to me I received a reprimand for getting too close and when people on the boat came to my defense it just made thing worse. Just insure the actual carrier is familiar with large camera systems, minus strobes. I was just shooting a Sony RX100 in a Nauticam housing.
  5. Finally updating my 2014 MacBook Air. This is what I travel with. Generally after a day of shooting I download cards to an external hard drive. I do not really edit while traveling, mainly just deleting bad images and video clips. Will load Photoshop and Bridge on it. Maybe FCPX...But all editing happens at home on the iMac. Back from 3wks in Alberta, BC and Alaska and came home with a terabyte of images, lol. On a budget and now need new portable hard drive/s and card readers, etc...Is 256gb enough? Thanks!
  6. We are starting to do long road trips, (non diving) and taking thousands of images, Sony A7RV 61mp and various 4k video, Nikon, Canon, GoPro, Insta360. I am still using a 10yr old MacBook Air and LaCie Rugged 2TB external hard drive. Daily downloads can take +30mins per card. Laptop and external hard drive using USB 3. Looking for a faster way to download from cards to external hard drive while on the road. Assuming it's time to upgrade external hard drive and maybe laptop or other type of device. Of course trying to keep cost down and not really looking to edit while on road. All input welcome. Again main goal is just to get images backed up daily.
  7. Ahhhh, I feel better now, I am not the only borderline image hoarder, lol. Probably need to update my storage to ssd. Off subject how do you get a link to your website or youtube page to show in your signature?
  8. After decades of digital photography it's "time to clean house". How do you decide what to keep? Not a professional, don't bother posting to Getty or Shutterstock anymore, might enter some photocontest for the heck of it. But mainly we go on a trip and I do a "trip video" 10-20mins for us. Then I will cut it down to 3-7mins for the website and Youtube. Lastly take maybe the best 10-15 images (out of hundreds if not thousands taken on a trip) and upload them to the Stills section of our website. I think I need to get back to "is this wall worthy".... Your process????
  9. Been updating the YouTube page. Found some old Powerpoint slide shows I used years ago. Page includes our dive videos. Feel free to comment! https://www.youtube.com/@aquabluedreams
  10. Thanks! As to the music I tried the upbeat music with the nudis to "liven" it up and sync with the quicker transitions, lol. We dove with another couple who had been to Anilao many times. They loved another resort that they felt was closer to the dive sites, was more orientated to hard core divers and less expensive. All I remember about it is the resort was all painted yellow, lol. Maybe it was just luck but I liked Solitude Acacia because there were not a bunch of hard core divers and photogs. We had the camera room pretty much to ourselves. The crew would get our cameras to and from the rinse tanks and there was just a more mellow feel. I'm not a lay around the pool guy but there could be more lounge chairs around the pool. Again I estimate the resort was no more than at 60% capacity.
  11. Recent trip to Anilao. Have cut it down from "our" 20min version to 7mins for the web, lol. Feel free to comment and critique.
  12. Sorry the better half found typos in the version I posted, lol. So here his the correctly spelled version....
  13. If you are bored, have a cup of coffee here is the long version, 17min, Anilao trip. The classic Mark Twain quote, "I didn't have time to write you a short letter, so I wrote you a long one instead". Next cut it down to under 6mins....
  14. Thanks! Use Final Cut Pro for videos. Is there any tricks to improving the audio? Never really played with this aspect.
