  1. I had a wonderful trip. I am sure the reefs have been in much better shape, and that is sad, but it’s a great island for scuba. So many divers there, the pick-up trucks dotting the shore dive locations, a very relaxed vibe. I need to learn much more about coral. Here is a photo of a brain coral, which to my untrained eye looks impacted by disease and/or bleaching,
  2. I am returning there this Saturday for a week after having spent the same week there last year. I was focused more on improving my diving than my photography last year, but would love any suggestions for shore dives good for close up wide angle of reefscapes, schooling fish, etc. I will definitely return to to Salt Pier and Hilma Hooker but would love other suggestions for shore dives. Will have a couple of boat dives too and may be able to give recommendations. And I’ll be sure to report back on the conditions! Thanks all.
  3. I’m a longtime enthusiast land photographer (landscapes and wildlife mostly) who’s gotten the underwater photography bug badly in the last few years. I’m taking to heart the maxim that I need to improve my diving first and foremost so I can concentrate more readily on the photographs I am shooting, but I’m now at least at a point where I am comfortable enough with my skills to focus more on the photography. I started with an Olympus OM-D 10 Mark IV (who names these things??) in AOI housing from Backscatter, and while I certainly can’t say I outgrew it I’ve recently invested in a Nauticam housing for the Nikon Z8 that I regularly use on land and am eager to starting exploring it shortly in Bonaire. Thanks to all of you who have contributed so much to this site already. I’ve found it invaluable when I was just a “lurker.”
