single CCD vs 3CCD vs 3CMOS

  1. Hi I'm totally new to videography and i've tried searching the forum for more information regarding the comparison but can't seem to find any.

I've been advised that a 3CCD (Panasonic GS400) is better than the single but some (perhaps ignorant store help) says the quality of single CCD (Sony DVD803E) is just as good, if not better.

surprisingly the colour on LCD screen seems more accurate on the sony.

Comparing these two cameras, which is a better digital video cam of choice?

errr.. i've also seen some 3CMOS sensor digital video cameras. is that a newer (and better) technology or a old one?

thanks in advance for help... :D

oh i've read some reviews on this forum. so it seems that HD is even higher quality than DVD..

  2. There is no hard and fast rule for comparing number of CCDs to quality of CCDs. In general 3 CCDs will give better color saturation and accuracy, but if there's a crap lens in front all that is moot. The LCD on the camcorder can also be of less quality.

DVD uses Mpeg compression, a lossy format compared to DV. But it is more convenient to have a DVD vs tape for some. There is a plethora of information online regarding both formats.

CMOS sensors are not new but used in the newer HDV cameras. HDV has higher resolution but bandwidth and compression takes its toll. Still it is an awesome format compared to SD.
