My Optiquatics Trip

  1. Hi Folks,

I thought I'd share a few pictures from my trip two weekends ago. I went on a 3-day trip with Optiquatics out of Ventura on the Peace. I met wetpixelean Terry Schuller and Dave from Backscatter, along with Dian Richards of the Montery Bay Aquarium. All very awesome people and a lot of fun to be around. Joe Wysocki is a kick in the pants and I'd recommend his trips solely based on his hard working disposition and his humor. Anyhow, here are a few pics from that trip. The blue banded goby was shot with my D100, 105, 2x telextender and screw on 4T diopter. I could not get full magnification cuz I'd have to add yet another extension ring. The lens just hits the port glass. Next time I am going to rig it with another ext. ring and see what happens. If you know how big blue banded gobies are, you can appreciate this picture.

Also, the reef pic is in 1 foot of water. You can see the reflection of the reef on the water surface while the water is rushing by. Hard pic to get without getting sucked in.

    Comments welcome.

    Joe

  3. Interesting images, Joe. All very nicely put together. Sounds like a fun trip.

  4. Nice stuff Joe. That giant seabass needs to pay a visit to the cleaner shrimp. That's gotta itch!

    Cheers

  5. Joe, do you find with the teleconverter added to the 105 that getting enough light is something that has to be given extra attention?

  6. Sweet stuff Joe, looks cold though!

  7. Colder than Yap, but not as cold as BC!!

It was 64-65 at Catalina and 60 at Anacapa

  8. No problem with light at all. The Ike DS50's provided ample light...and in fact were not firing at full power.

Like Terry said, it wasn't that cold in terms of cold water diving. Now if it were 28.6, then I'd say it was on the cool side :D

  9. Very nice Joe, like others really like the Seabass.
