  1. I'm looking for a small consumer digicam that has excellent macro capabilities. I need a small camera and housing that I can carry around in a catch bag to take photographs of seahorses and in particular the tags that I use on them. My CP8400 setup is a little bit to big to lug around when doing the work so hence I need a smaller option.

I'm considering the Sony T5 but I'd like to hear any feedback from people that have actually used the camera, particularly if they have taken it underwater.

    This is the camera:

    Any comments are welcome.

  2. Hi Dave,

I have the T3 which is not very different to the T5.

I have raved about it a bit on wetpixel, but am happy to do so again

    * awesome for macro - it gets better magnification than 1:1 - great for the amphipods and nudis

    * the camera copes well with just an onboard flash - not perfect but good :D

    * it is small - I carry mine in the cumberbund of my BC for those moments when the dolphins swim past & I have a macro lens on my SLR

    * battery is good for around 180 minutes or ovewr 200 photos with flash

The negative would be needing the cradle to charge/download/AV display :D but thats part of what keeps it small.

It will feel tiny compared to your full CP rig!

I will be diving @ PS next week if you want to come and have a play with the T3.

    cheers

    Leander

  3. No experience with the Sony T5, but I can vouch for the Sony W5 in UW applications. You might consider it if Sony's UW housing for the W5 is compact enough to meet your needs. You can focus at 6cm in macro mode -- it works most excellently. I go on about it in another post in this forum.
