I am with the Houston Underwater Photographic Society (http://www.hups.org). As part of our monthly meetings we have photocontests. We have a 10+ year old scoring machine that allows 3 judges to score images and it then adds these scores to come up with a total score for each image. The scores are displayed so the audience can see them. This aging judging machine is in need of repair again and before we send it off I thought we should see what other photo clubs are using. Are any of you using a scoring machine or doing these functions on a laptop or are you usng paper and pen? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

LAUPS is paper/pen "ballots". Each image is assigned a number and category. One ballot per person per category.

At NCUPS we have a "mini-comp." Members are allowed to bring in one image (digital or slide) to enter. There are three skill levels available, Novice, Intermediate and Advanced.
We use the old fashioned method of voting; you hold up your hand to vote for your favorite and two counters with clipboards write down the quantity of votes for each image. All attendees at the meeting get to vote, member or not.
It's alot of fun. :-)

South Florida UPS votes by a show of hands which are counted by two board members. We have three votes per meeting. One for digital images, which has been in place for two years and two for film. Film has a masters and challengers categories. Anyone who has been photographer of the year must enter the masters category, everyone else can enter one or both categories. We allow two entries per month in film and two in digital. Challengers who win in the masters categories get double points towards photographer of the year making it more diffcult for masters to repeat as photographer of the year. Each category has a diffrent subject and the top three winners in each category are are shown in the following months on line news letter. We also have votes several times a year for no-the-day contests from club dives.
At some point we intend to expand the digital category as more members become involved.
Club meetings are held at 7:30 PM on Tuesdays and several members travel over sixty miles to attend meetings. Voting by a show of hands helps speed up the meeting so that they can be held to around two to two and a half hours per month.
