A while back James Wiseman hinted that the Nikon to Canon lens adapter might be the best way to get a 10.5 mm lens on a Canon. Has anyone tried this? Where does one find such an adapter? Can't seem to find it by Googling.

I have a Novoflex adapter which allows Nikon lenses to be mounted on a Canon body, as I don't use it anymore (no Nikon gear), its available (its a 'personal' item not business). If you want to email me I'll forward details.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for answering one part... but
Has anyone tried it? Will this thing work on a 20D Canon??
Inquiring minds want to know.
Mike, thanks for the "generous" offer. I will bring your pink fins down to Yap for you.

Hi Arnon,
I did a search on B&H but nothing turns up. What exactly is this gizmo called?

Hi Arnon,
Never mind, found it under Novoflex products. Its says it works with EOS Canons but nothing specific about the 20D or digital cameras. Anyone have any experience with this?

Hmm...not looking good.
You will have no control over the aperture on the 10.5 as this is a G type lens with no aperture ring. You can control the focus with an MF gear, but I have NO idea if you'll be stuck shooting at f2.8 all the time.

The best option for a FF fisheye on a canon crop camera is sigma's 8mm.
There is a small ammount of vignetting in the corners but if you run it through panormama tools to partially correct fisheye distortion the corners get tossed and it fills the frame nicely with a true 180 degrees that would be even wider horizontal FOV than the 10.5 would be.

Hi Guys,
Thank you. I have the Sigma. I am looking for something simpler to light. I have the 10-22mm Canon but prefer the 10.5 as it is short and I don't have to use an extension ring on the dome.
My main questions to anyone with a 20D Body and one of these rings:
When you attach a Nikon lens to the Canon 20D body via this adapter do you:
1) Have autofocus?
2) Have aperature control via the body?
Anyone who has the wherewithal to give this a try, I would be forever beholdin' if I get an answer to those two questions (if you attach a 10.5 or any G lens, so much the better)
Best,
T

According to link to focuscamera:
'Allows use of Nikon AI (F) mount lenses on Canon EOS bodies. Retains lens ability to focus to infinity, but transmits no functions between body and lens.'
And here is a review about Novoflex Lens Mount Adapter that says the same about using it with the D30

STephen Frink did some tests on a Canon:

I'd forgotten that the 10.5 is a G lens. I'd say its not worth using it via an adapter as you would have to use the lens with a MF gear (not impossible) and only at f/2.8 - unless you are prepared to jam the aperture part closed (again probably not impossible, but would you really want to?)!
For information, the adapter from Novoflex is quite well made but I would suggest that it was used in conjunction with a lens for which both aperture and focus gears are available and which you are prepared to adjust to fit your housing. I bought it for long lens use but now have Canon lenses. If anyone wants one let me know.

A long time ago (before the 10.5mm or full frame digital sensors) were invented we had a discussion here about using supplimentary lens fisheye converters on DSLRs.
I can't find the thread. But the idea worked.

HI FOLKS,
Those reviews and responses were very helpful (even Mike's). Thank you all for chiming in.
I think the idea is probably unworkable without the AF function. I am trying to simplify things and steps needed to make this work would certainly complicate matters.
Back to the long but very useful 10-22mm.
I just got back from the outer atolls in the Wakatobi Marine Park (South Sulawesi). If you want to see what the 10-22mm can do on walls and beaches, check this.

Works pretty well actually but a (short) prime 10 or 12 would certainly be welcome.
Thanks again,

Tim,
Are you missing your old 10.5? It is doing well in Alaska.
I posted a pic done with it here a couple months back. I think you will need to get and house the new Canon with the 24 x 36mm sensor ( is it 5D or D5?) with a 15mm fisheye attached!Cheers!

Hi Tom,
I actually like the crop sensor. Don't want a full frame. I miss the low profile of the 10.5 in the housing. The 10-22 is about the same as a Nik 12-24 so needs and extension ring. Good to hear it has found a good home in the North (what a change in climates for that lens!).

Hi Tim,
Not as much thermal shock compared to sending it to Fairbanks in winter! Actually I am surprised that Sigma has not yet introduced a cropped-sensor full-frame fisheye lens to support their own cameras as well as for those, like Canon, where none exist. Maybe there is hope???

Yes Tim. Stop messing around with these adapters. Get a 5D.
