I would like to receive some suggestion regarding this shoots I took during my last stay at Red Sea.
It was my first time with the strobo.
The image number 3 is a lot out of focus but I like the " cloudy - heaven " apparence of the fish.
Image 7 are my first attempt to make a black background ..obviously with no luck :-(
Tell me the truth are this shoots very bad?
Thank you
Andrea
Hi Claustro, these are great to be only your second time with the camera. I especially like the ray(#6) and hawkfish (#4). It seems that you used a shutter speed to slow on the spade fish (#3) as I can see some motion blur. The grouper shot looks ok, but I think there is too much distracting background. For the black background, you should use a small aperture (f16 or 22) and high shutter speed (1/250 or higher if your strobe synchs).
I hope this helps.
Luiz
Thank you Rocha for your kind answer.
The problem is that my camera has a maximum of 8f...I dont'know if it is enough.
Maybe I'll have to play with the setting of the strobe using half power.
I am trying to simulate the situation out of the water.
The main problem I had using the strobe at red sea was that there was to much light to work in auto ( the built in flash didn't shoot most of the time) so I was unable to use the strobe in ttl...but maybe I'm doing something wrong;-)
A good book will be my next step;-))
Thank you
Andrea
Hi Andrea, I am glad I could help. I think that the only way to fire the flash when there is apparently too much light is to use it on manual.
P.S.: That hawkfish is really nice I really like the way they pose.
Rocha I saw you web site ...what can I say very fantastic photos!!!.
The tips you and others members gave me are invaluable.
Here some other shoots, I have to say that I improve my photos a lot using photoshop , a right crop , some healing tool , a little of color correction and the things go a lot much better...maybe in the future I'll be able to make good photos without cheating ;-))
The hawkfishes are one of my favorites subject they have a funny look and they are always ...still :-)
You can get a nice black background with only F8. Here is an example with my camera which also has a minimum aperture of F8.
Not the best pic but it shows the dark background. Settings were F8 1/1000 with internal flash.
