  1. I am in PANIC!!!!!

WHAT can I do. Is something else that i can put any tips any ideas...

  2. Lambis, breathe, breathe, DON'T PANIC!!!:D Try to find silicone paste (the gel-like one, not the liquid stuff) at the scuba shops, the one that they use to grease the regulator and tank o-rings during maintenance. It should be the same.

  3. Hey Lambis

I've just emailed Nexus asking them if any o-ring lube will do or if Nexus use a specialist o-ring lube.

Worse comes to the worst, I suggest not lubing them. But I'll email you as soon as Nexus reply.

  4. I BREATHE!!!

THERE is silicone paste for Regulators!!!!! Can I use it? GREAT!!!!!!

    Me so F...ing happy!!!

  5. How long are you going to be there? How many spare o-rings do you have?

If not too long, or you have plenty of spare o-rings, I would buy what ever silicon you can find, use it sparingly and replace the o-rings after two days or so.

  6. There are some grease on the housing will last for 2 divers or so but not for 2 weeks....

I have some Oring grease on the handles... I can use ti to if it is nececerty. The port I dont use grease becauce i never take the port away

So it is only the housing

    Well wait and see ...

Thanks for all help.. I am happy that internet is working today in DAHAB!!!!!

  7. I have 2 spare orings!!! And a Water alarm inside the housing

I freedive so it is secure to use the camera... but you know I like to takes photos and not control the camera all the time if it has a leak

  8. Lambis, I thought you were talking about the port o-ring. The housing o-ring can go very far without much lub, in fact, some manufacturers recommend no lubrication on the main o-ring. I only lubricate mine once before the trip, I repeate the process only if sand gets into the o-ring grove. If this happens I remove, wash and lubricate the o-ring, otherwise it stays on it's place. Just keep it clean and you should be ok.

  9. Hi

Nexus have send me the same greace for Housing & Port

Noe I need to grease the port only one time becauce then it will stay in the housing for 2 weeks...

The housing oring on the other hand have some grease from the last time and i can put it together...

So you say if i am carefull when opening and closing the housing is enough with this?

Iam going to be in the water 10 days 3 houers per day. No sandno riffs only open water (with some sand particles )

Anyway, if i know that some replacement will doit it will be great

I was thinking to find another photographer to use his grease... but again maybe Nexus have a special one... I hope not..

    Lambis

    P.S. What about Vaseline?????

  10. don't use vaseline, it is an oil product that might not be compatible with your O-rings.

O-ring grease is not a sealant, but a lubricant used to keep the o ring flexible and in good condition. the o ring itself does the sealing.

  13. Hey Lambis

    Woody at Nexus says:

Nexus has their own grease and it is not petroleum based. You can use

generic silicone grease in an emergency but not as a regular habit.

So get some, relax and get snapping........ and have fun,

    Best wishes

    Tim

  14. Thanks Tim

I will check if my grease is petroleum based...

    THANKS for the Help...

  15. A pleasure Lambis. I've been in that situation where you realise you have forgotten some crucial bit of equipment: that rapidly rising heart beat - the sweating - then the nausea kicks in.......

Have a great trip and show us some stunning pics.

  16. One of the most common misconceptions about o-rings is that the grease makes them seal. Another of the most common misconceptions is that the grease isn't to help seal but is only to keep the o-ring flexible. Both are pretty much urban legends. O-rings seal by compression so they need to be soft but the depth of penetration of the grease is is pretty shallow (section one and look for Si through the diameter and you won't find much more than a few microns into the rubber) and probably doesn't do much to keep the things soft. I think that o-ring lubrication with silicone grease/oil (same things different molecular weights) does two things. The first and most important is sealing up any tiny cracks or imperfections in the rubber so that there is a continuous seal against the sealing face. The second thing is that silicone is very hydrophobic so any water droplets will not "wet" the surface of the o-ring and thus flow to any of the imperfections that you find.

Just my $0.01 (not worth 2 cents)

  17. Thanks

I use now and 3 days a Silicon greace that I have found in a lokal store

    without problems

The difference is that my original grease is kind off white cream but the new is transparent and king sticky

Anyway its work untill i come back from vacation
