Thinking of getting a new cam and found that there is a lack of choice due to availability of underwater housings. Had my eye on the Canon S2 IS, only to give up due to a lack of housing...
Have narrowed down my options to the A620 or the S80, has anyone used them underwater? How do the pics look?? How does the Fuji F810 compare? i notice that seems to be a popular model...
I currently have the Olympus C3040, but as it has flooded on my last trip , i'm looking to get a new cam... how do the 2 compare to the c3040? It has produced decent pics for me despite being an oldie....
I don't know anyone who has used either one underwater yet. As for comparing the cameras, both look very capable. It used to be that the S series cameras had RAW capture. Now that the S80 doesn't have this, there won't be much of an advantage over the A620. Considering the price difference, I would probably get the A620. Use the difference to purchase an Ikelite housing instead of the Canon one. If you purchase the Canon housing you might not be able to add wide angle or macro lenses later (this is for the A620 because of its oblong lens port. The S80's port looks circular).
The F810 is supposed to have very fast autofocus and low noise levels. When it came out, it was faster than the (then current) A95. Now the A620 has a Digic II processor, so the speed difference should not be that much. The F810's weaknesses were the poor battery life and that it took xD cards. The A620 uses 4 AA batteries and will go much more on one charge. It takes cheaper SD cards.
Another model worth looking at is the Olympus SP-350.
yeah, i had a look at the oly sp350, but it did not impress me, hence waiting to hear more reviews on that cam...
According to their website Ikelite has a housing coming out for the S2 IS in Dec.
