Lens selection for Curacao

4 posts
  1. In April I am going to Curacao for the first time. The only lens I have at the moment is an 18-70 that came with my D-70. I am using an Ikelite housing and a single DS-125 which I used in Costa Rica and was very happy with. If you only had one lens to take to Curacao would it be a wide angle (10.5) or a macro(105)? As always, thanks for your comments and suggestions.

  2. Curacao has great locations for both wide-angle and macro. If I had only one choice it would be to dive macro both day and night.

  3. I vote for the macro too. It will be hard to get even light on your shots with the 10.5 if you're using only one DS-125.

  4. I think you should consider the Nikon 60mm macro. You will probably want to own both the 105 and the 60 eventually anyway. The 60 has a number of advantages over the 105:

less expensive - about $200 less

    easier to use

    faster focusing

    wider range of subjects

The way to go by my way of thinking is to start off doing macro with the 60 and as you begin to feel that the working distance of the 60 is beginning to limit you them add a 105 to your kit.

Curacao will present plenty of great wide-angle setups that would be perfect for the 10.5, but like Luiz said, with a single strobe you'll have a difficult time with lighting
