I'm replacing a Sea & Sea YS-30 with a YS-90 with a fiber optic sync cable. Based upon what I've read, the fiber optic cables are very fragile. Since I live aboard a boat in the Caribbean for 6-7 months at a time, I need to carry all of the repair parts that I might possibly need. Can I bring a spool of fiber optic cable with me to repair a damaged cable? If so, where can I obtain it?
I think its sold by the metre up to a max of 100m. The core is actually a clear plastic so its possible to wrap it around a core and heat it up using a hair dryer, ending up with a coiled sync cable. No doubt its sold in US electronic store too.
