do I need a protective lense for a uwl-100

  1. Hey everyone,

I just orderred a jvc everio mg70 camcorder with an ikelite housing that I will be using to film dives in an upcomming vacation. I have a 10w metal halide light w/ a video reflector that i will be using for lighting. I purchased an INON uwl-100 wide angle lense and wanted to know if a clear uv filter or some other type of protective lense is needed to protect it while using? I bought a few filters for my camera, but nothing to go over the uwl-100 lense. Is any protection needed? Anyone know? I am totally new to underwater video so any input is greatly appreciated regarding my question or anything for that matter.

  2. I'm not familiar with the system but if the WA lens is inside the housing... what do you want to protect it from?

  3. Don't swim into the reef with it or clean it with sand from the bottom. I'd skip on a UV or ND on it. You'd have to figure out how to have it flood and it's just one more piece of glass in the way.

  4. Actually it would be interesting if Scubaduba is able to put a polariser on. Water is polarized so the filter would give it a better look esp on video without lights. I tried it once but my rigs do not have wet lenses and a polarizer can't be adjusted internally. I believe Craig Jones also experimented with polarizers without luck. Problem is with video, only circular polarizers work, thus some sort of adjustment is necessary. Biggest problem is finding a polarizer with plastic rings instead of mental.
