questions on Ikelite 6130 housing

2 posts
  1. I have just purchased a used Ikelite 6130 housing on ebay for my Oly-c4040. I have installed the camera and all the functions seem to work ok. On the shutter release control there seems to be a return spring (on the housing)that is not functioning. Could someone tell me if that control (on the Ikelite housing) actually comes with a return spring or just relys on the release pressure of the camera shutter button to return the lever back to the home position. I also have one plunger on the back of the housing(Lcd control) that shows slight salt/corrosion on the inside of the case, indication that the plunger is probably leaking a bit. From reading this forum I gather Ikelite to be a good company to deal with(service) so I'm thinking of sending the housing to them to test/recondition it. Can someone who has used the Ikelite repair tell me if they found them to be reasonable?

I purchased this housing to replace my Oly PT-010 which has a broken latch. I have been unsucessfull in finding a replacement latch for this housing. I purchased this housing in Japan and don't know if it was ever marketed in the US but even my attempts of locating parts in Japan have been unsucessful. Several people have contacted me with similar latch problems so this might be a weak point of the Oly housing. I broke my latch when I was returning to my seat on the dive boat. I happened to tap the side of the housing against the seat and the latch blew apart. It seemed to have a lot of tension on that plastic latch. Any info apreciated.

    Thanks,

    Tom

  2. #6130 shutter release return spring can become disengaged if knob pushed too far without a camera in the housing. Should be easy for you to "wind it up" into position. We finally eliminated the spring to end the aggravation. Work some lube on the push button shafts while pushing them in and out, then take the case diving without a camera. I doubt if it will leak, but no problem for us to repair if it does............
