Not sure if this is similar to the camera that Eric's mate is working on, but this is an interesting development.
The idea of selecting a focus point after the fact is pretty novel idea. It could really help with the situation poor kthan found himself in after his last trip. I'm sure they'll improve the resolution down the track...
Yup, that is the same guy Eric wrote about. Eric had a fair amount of info on his personal site about Ren too.

Lots of patents in this space, the first are from Hughes, the latest from both HP and our friends in Redmond on the SW to deconvolute the images.
Very interesting but if Eric is right about order of magnitude improvement in sensors it will be 7 years or so before we see one that is as good as a 20D
This is sort of related to confocal microscopy which could also benefit from this type of idea.
