Cant see anything in C2020 LCD!

  1. I've got a new C2020 in a PT-10 housing, and my problem is that I can't see much of anything when shooting underwater. I do a combination of guesswork and estimation, and its working, but is this the way it really is? The Oly works fine topside.

  2. Are you saying that the LCD is blank, like not functioning?

Or that you just cannot see it due to reflection etc.?

  3. Hi,

Here is a tip for you. You can actually block the light that passes through the housing by using a regular foam like the ones you'd find in a Pelican Case.

Step 1. Locate a foam material [preferably black] and trim it according to the size of the LCD panel. You can use an EXACTO knife to trim the foam. The final piece should look like a frame with the middle part of the foam cut out according to the size of the LCD monitor. Size of the foam you need is 1 3/4" width x 1.25" height x 1" depth.

Step 2. Once the foam is trimmed, open your PT case and insert the foam between the back door and the back of your camera making sure the foam is aligned to the LCD monitor. Note you should be able to view your LCD once the foam is in place.

Step 3. Close the back door and do some test shots. The foam works as a panel to block the light that's passing through the case.

One thing I don't like about the PT-010 housing is the fact that when you're doing shallow dive sometimes it's difficult to view everything from the LCD monitor especially on a bright sunny condition. It would be great if Olympus Japan makes an LCD shade for the PT-010 similar to the Olympus PT-009 Housing.

    I hope this helps....

  4. So its excess light passing through the case? And your BLOCK THIS OFF with the foam insert? Thanks a lot, I'll give this a try and let you know how it goes.

One more question - do you figure the problem will go away in deeper water? I don't do scuba, and the deepest I have taken shots with my camera is 20 feet.
