Philippine "Devil Fish" ??

  1. There was a pair of these, each about 2-3 inches long, in the sea grass in Sabang Bay, Puerto Galera, Mindoro, Philippines.

     

    thx in advance for any leads on identifying them

  2. Dragonfish. Eurypegasus draconis

     

    Family Pegasidae (seamoths)

  4. Sabang Sand Flats and the Boulders Sand Flats are great spots for the Sea Moths in Puerto. I had on occassion shot images of a Sea Moth Menage a Trois! in Sabang :huh:

  5. It's interesting (and I think misleading) that your guide called it a "devilfish". Not only is Pegasus sea moth is the standard common name, but devilfish usually would mean a species of the Inimicus genus of scorpionfishes.

     

    Nice that you got too Pegasuses (pegasi?) in pretty contrasting colors like that.
