Wondering if there is enough power U.W with this. I think the subal housing for it has curved glass to help with distance but anyone with experience with it please let me know what you think?

Housed SB-800 is the TTL worth it?

I'm using one SB-800 for the last 5 dives. It's housed on a Sealux unit. I use it for Macro on i-TTL. You can see some photos taken last 30th Nov here:

I've tested the power issue with lens 18-70. Here is a link:
the first 4 photos. The others were taken with 105mm, Macro on i-TTL.
The next step will be to build an exposure table (ISO200, SB800 on Manual, Nikkor 10.5mm) to find out the real NG UW. If anyone has allready done this I'll be most grateful if you can share it with us...

I think it is fine for macro, but not nearly enough power (or coverage) for wide angle, where manual control over the strobes produces better results than TTL anyways.

I used the SB80 UW for a bit. It was fine for macro and fish shots, but not great for wide angle, unless it was of the close focus variety.
This was lit with the SB80DX

I would really recommend UW strobes for digital. There really isn't a need for TTL with digital. See this discussion:

Also please have a look at this gallery on my website:

There was no-TTL used on any of the shots. It is really very easy to shoot manual flash on digital.

I just got rid of my SB-800 housing...
Was ok for most of the macro stuff but I still needed to adjust +/- in most cases so no use. I ended up fully manual...
I didn't like the push button controls that most (!?) housings have. To change the settings you have to look at the display to see what you are doing...
In manual setting the SB-800 goes in "sleep" mode and wakes up after the next shot... (did I miss a setting???)
Cheers
