  1. A Periclimenes shrimp at Lembeh

  2. Nice shot, color and detail are great. I would have composed it differently, with the large shrimp more to the left and bottom of the frame, but it is great the way it is now too.

  3. Hi Whitehead - Very nice take, I really like the absolute color contrast therin with no "glow" from the white patches. Are these shrimps rare?

    Thanks,

    Scott

  4. Emperor shrimps can be quite common locally, but are not found on that many dive sites. In some places they can be locally very common. But generally they are a prized find, especially in such pretty colours. It is a great shot Whitehead. Especially when you know how small they are!

  5. This is a great shot - Like Luiz was saying the center composition is the only thing kind of holding it back - it would be a strike against it in a competion. I still like it anyway, has a mother baby feel to it - great

  6. If I was judging it in a competition, as I might if it was entered in the Wetpixel 2006 Contest, I would also comment on the use of depth of field. If the image is about the two shrimps, "mother and baby" as it were, then they should both be in focus. If it is only about one shrimp, then why is the second one in the frame?

Obviously we cannot increase DOF at a whim at these magnifications - so to get the second shrimp sharper a different composition would be required with the two subjects more parallel.

Anyway, I really like this image and I am just being super critical as you tend to be at the business end of judging competitions, trying to find reasons to cull great pix.

  7. Do a little cropping on the left and bottom. Resize using bicubic smoother. Could be a fantastic shot.

  8. I liked it at first but now the more I look at it, the more it does not hold my eye also. Back to my "pile" to look for some more (I have so many unprocessed shots at the moment that I dont need to go diving for a year! am not sure if thats good or bad).
