DS125 short circuit

15 posts
  1. I have an Aquatica D100 with dual TTL connectors and two single sync cords and two DS125 's.

Sometimes, both strobes work. Sometimes I cannot take a picture at all, and the only way to fix the problem is to turn off the left strobe and shoot with just the right one.

I have been told that what I need to do is take some electrical tape and cover up one of the sensors on the hot shoe.

The camera itself as a large sensor in the middle and a smaller one on the upper right and two small ones on the bottom, nothing on the upper left. I don't have the housing here so Im not sure what the setup is on the hotshoe from the housing.

    Which sensor do I tape?

  2. Great thanks a lot Luiz. I looked for that on the Ikelite site but couldn't find it.... i guess i just didnt know where to look.

  3. Well, I have similar problems now. I use the double TTL sync cord ( with the blue band on) and two DS-125 strobes. I have the D70 TTL Ikelite housing. Sometimes happened the camera doesn't let me to take the picture. So I have to turn off the master strobe and use whole dive just one strobe. When I try back to turn on the master strobe, I can't take a picture. After dive when I try to play with the opened housing it starts to work fine after few minutes of disassebling the hot shoe connectors and turning on and off the strobes and camera. I don't know what is the impulse to the system to start work again...... Do you have any experiences with something like this? Any advice?

    Thanks,

    Petr

  4. Hi Ike,

where should be the serial number placed on? I can't see one......

But I bought the strobes thru BH photovideo this September and I don't think they have stocked the older units.

  5. Ike, is there any difference in the electronics of the battery packs? I just bought a spare and it doesn't have a serial number.

  6. Serial number is on strobe body. I don't know that there is a serial number on battery packs............

  7. OK, I found the serial nubers on the strobes. It is over 7000 on both. They are so small I miss them.

I have read the annoucement about the hot shoe. What is thru I had sometimes problem to switch between the TTL and Manual strobe mode. So I tried today to play with the camera and the housing with strobes connected.

There is no way to switch the modes till the meter is off. So I seted up the shortest off time as possible.

It din't solve the original problem, but now I know why it take so long to swith the TTL to Manual mode sometimes.

With the original problem will see.... on table work all fine. So I will see the behavior UW. Thanks Ike.

  8. Does that mean that any battery pack will work with my DS-125/Canon 20d combo?

  9. Yes. SubStrobe DS-125 utilizes interchangeable battery packs. Your question indicates we do a lousy job of presenting products and features......

  10. Not really. I had my DS-125 updated to work with the 20d. I wanted to make sure I didn't regress with the alternate battery pack.

  11. Regarding Petr's D70 sometimes refusing to let him take a picture with the strobes on.

I have had a similar problem, and found that pressing the AE-lock button brings the camera back to life.
