  1. I recently returned from my trip to Kona. While there I was fortunate enough to have the experience of swimming with dolphins. If you're ever there, don't miss this opportunity. There is a large pod of dolphins that hang out in Kealakekua Bay. Residents say they are there almost every day. We rented kayaks and spent the day swimming with dolphins and snorkeling near the James Cook monument across the bay. We spent probably 30-45 minutes with the dolphins.

Anyways, I was not thrilled with any of my shots. I think maybe I should have eliminated my strobe ???? I tried to fix up one of my pics in MGI photosuite (I don't have Adobe photoshop). What do you think? Any pointers?

    Here is the original photo:

Here is my attempt at making it look better:

  2. Must have been a great experience. I'm not sure if i would find the tame to take pictures at all, i'd probably just look at them and forget about everything else

You are right about the strobe, using it caused a lot of backscatter in your picture and the distance to the dolphins was too far to use the strobe anyway.

Your improvemed version is much better but the blue is a bit pixelish.

I don't know MGI photosuite but what you could try is this:

    1. Crop the picture because there is more water behind the dolphins than in front of them

    2. Try to get rid of the backscatter

    3. Adjust the colors

Here's what i was thinking of ... (hope you don't mind i played with your photo),

  3. Sabine,

Thanks alot for your imput. I really like "your" improved version of my picture. I don't mind at all that you helped me out by fixing it up. As a matter of fact, I appreciate it. That is why I posted it. Did you fix it in Adobe Photoshop?

This was a great experience. Even if I wasn't able to capture the dolphins as I would have liked too. It was my favorite day in Kona. I could have watched them for hours. We watced the interaction of the whole pod. We saw them mating. We saw babies suckling on their mommies and the yougster acting up. On the surface we watched them flipping and twisting. We watched as the mothers taught their babies how to do flips. It was great! I was getting very emotional watching them.
