Hi All,
Last week we had an amazing dive experience in the South of Leyte, Philippines. The best I ever had. We stumbled on a group of Whale sharks feeding in a bay. We counted up to 10 whale sharks at the same time feeding on the plankton and crill.
Early in the morning, we had to shelter for an approaching storm and decided to go into a bay which had a big mountain protecting our banka (local Philippine Boat) from the heavy winds. To our surprise we saw many whale shark fins on the surface feeding near the coast line.
We immediatly grabbed our camera's and snorkeled to the group of whale sharks. Of course I forgot to put a wide-angel lens on my camera and went into the water with a 60 mm macro...having the wrong lens is a problem when diving with a fish of an average size of 10 meters. But hey - the experience is documented.
The local people told us that they visited many times the bay in group and are used to their visits. For the local fisherman it is a blessing having them because with the whale sharks comes large groups of tuna near the shore.
I've uploaded the pictures today in our website: whale sharks on poppe-images
enjoy the pics.
