Digital vs. Film photo posting

7 posts
  1. Hi, guys -

I'd like to get some feedback about posting photos from non-digital cameras. Wetpixel focuses on digital imaging, underwater, but it is useful to see film scans posted. Are we all ok with it?

One option is to separate the photo posting forums into separate film and digital forums.

Or, we can keep it the way it is. There isn't too much traffic -- yet.

  2. I think it's good to flip from one example to another in each type... I think the important thing is everyone keeps taking them whatever.

It seems to be attracting a lot of interest and everyone is getting involved helping each other out.

It's especially good to see newcomers (to either concept) posting images, promoting discussion, positive feedback and above all encouragement.

All of the images are well worth looking at more than once.

At the end of the day we all like doing it!

    Bob

  3. Howdy all,

At this moment in time and space I think you should leave everything as it is, After all everyone here is first and foremost, Photographers.

Also in a sense, even as a film user, I'm a semi digital as it stands. 7 years ago I got my first computer and I told everyone that it was going to be my darkroom. So in what sense does one become a digital photographer?

I think both mediums have much to learn from each other, but thats only if we want to make it that way.

Have a great day and enjoy life

  4. I've enjoyed the participation of the film photographers. I agree that things should be left the way they are.

  5. I agree with Herb, leave everything as it is now.

A scanned slide IMO is digital, or does the camera have to get wet to produce wetpixels ?

I enjoyed and learned a lot from the (scanned) photos that were submitted by Bob and Pierre. As long as the photographer gives us a hint that the origibal is film, it's ok for me.

Other questions, like "optimizing your photos" on a PC, printing, ... are interesting for both kinds of pictures.

  6. I tend to agree with Sabine that if the photographer identifies the source of the image (digital or film), it should stay the way it is.

  7. My vote is to leave it the way it is, as long as the format is posted along with the photos. I intend to continue shooting both for many years.
