A dive buddy in Cayman recently had a small, non-terminal flood of Hugyfot D70 housing. Everything is fine but there is still a small amount of water inside the housing's viewfinder, which must have been forced in there under pressure during the flood.
Any ideas on how to get it out. Or any tips on how to take the viewfinder apart.
thanks,
Alex
I have a tip .... get down to Calico Jacks tomorrow night where i am working and come have some drinks and celebrate new years !!
The simplest way to solve this would be to reverse the process.
A vacuum chamber would be the ticket but I'll bet there isn't one on the island...
Hi Alex,
A bit late I know, but when this happened to me and Karl, we were able to remove a lot of water by "boiling it off" by putting the finder in the hot sun. Not sure if it's good for the o-rings, but it worked.
This would be the same process as would happen if you vacuumed the finder - the water reaches the vapor pressure and becomes vapor and exits the finder due to pressure.
Cheers
James
Looking at the viewfinder right now, it looks like the rear "element" of the finder is only held in place by an o-ring. Should be pretty easy to get this element off the finder and the water out. I'll need the camera over the weekend and do not have a spare o-ring, so leave trying this to someone else for the moment...
