  1. hi to all,

i just registered in this fourum and have to shoot a question right away. i am not new to photography perse but underwater... i still have to try :(

i have a canon 20d, canon 350d and a pentax optio S5i digital cameras. among the three, the cheapest waterhousing that i can get is for the P&S pentax. the 20d and 350d housing are expensive and wouldnt want to touch them as of the moment since i dont know what underwater photography is about.

    my question:

is the pentax Optio S5i pocket camera good enough for just a recreational dive? will it give me good quality pictures assuming the conditions underwater is good (bluewater, btw, i'm in the Philippines with great dive spots)?

i am planning to use my P&S cam first before i jump into the more expensive toys.

thank you very much and Happy new Year to All!!!

    edwin

  2. Welcome Edwin,

yes, you should be able to get very nice pictures with the Optio.

A friend of mine has one and has made some very nice pics with it.

The big advantage is that it's a bit less bulky then the housings for the 20D and 350d, you can probably guess the disadvantages yourself.

I started out with a P&S camera as well before buying the SLR housing and for me it was a good learning curve.

    good luck
