  1. I thought you might be interested in hearing this info.

Yes, the C5050Z onboard flash will fire on super macro mode.

For those of you who just bought a C5050Z, here's the step for setting the camera on a slave flash setting.

    1. set the camera mode dial to MANUAL

    2. go to the menu buttom

    3. on camera setting choose FLASH

    4. then scroll down to SLAVE.

    5. Once in SLAVE flash setting you can increase and decrease the light output of the internal strobe for supe maro shot.

and the neat part about it is the Sea and Sea YS25DX, YS90DX, Inon D-180 will work with the C5050Z PT-015 setup.

you can set the onboard flash output setting to the lowet seting which is 1 and just control the strobe light output manually from the YS90DX.

YS90DX strobe should be set to ON and the SLAVE switch to ON.

  2. You don't set it to "Pre?"

    Cheers

    James

  3. James,

No, you don't set the strobe to PRE set it ON.

  4. Gotcha.

What does the "Pre" setting do Allen? I never used it because I didn't use the slave function on the YS90DX.

    Cheers

    James

  5. James,

The PRE setting on the YS90DX is for digital cameras equipped with pre flash function. I think when you set the C5050Z to SLAVE strobe the camera's preflash get's disabled.

The ON position serves 2 functions:

    1. It is used with digital cameras that do not have the pre-flash feature

    2. It activates the strobe for manual flash output and flash output can be adjusted with the 12 step light level control on teh YS90DX.

I've tested both settings on the YS90DX

PRE setting will not fire the strobe

    ON will trigger the strobe

  6. I thought the c-5050 didn't have a super macro function (macro function only from 20cm distance). That's one of the reasons I want to buy a c-4000 or c-730uz which are the only camera's with super macro function.

  7. perhaps you might want to consider the C5050Z.

    here's the Olympus C5050Z link :)

  8. here's the instructions on how to set the Olympus C5050Z to slave flash.

Turn the camera ON and set the control dial cap located on the top of the C5050Z to M. Go to the MODE MENU and scroll right to camera.

Once in camera setting, scroll down to the FLASH icon.

    c5050zstep3.jpg

You have three choices to choose once you're in the flash setting. INTERNAL FLASH, FLASH and SLAVE. Set the flash to SLAVE.

You can also control the flash output from the onboard flash manually. Lowest setting is 1.

    c5050zstep5.jpg

Highest setting is 10. If you're equipped with an external strobe. The recommended setting for the onboard flash on the C5050Z is 1 which is the lowest setting.

This is how the LCD screen looks like when the camera is set to SUPER MACRO MODE. Super macro mode icon ON and flash icon SLOW 1is also ON.

  9. This works fine, tried last night, but it seems that the lens barrel blocks part of the strobe's field, creating a bad shadow, would only work with external flash properly positioned. At least that's the way it seems - hope those housings come in somewhere before Bonaire trip. Bill
