Bad Weather Curtails Diving

  1. A nasty Northwester storm here in Cayman stopped me diving yesterday, so thought I'd try something else. First stab at this sort of photography and conditions were pretty ropey, but I was pleased with the results.

The blur in this one is created entirely in camera. Image from JPG - RAW processing awaits in the UK.

This one is more standard, but I like it too.

    Both D2X + 10.5mm - no surprise.

    Hopefully weather will improve tomorrow.

  2. Great photos Mustard, love the blur effect how exactly did you create that?

I believe that same Northwestern storm in Cayman, i.e. cold front is what prevented me from diving today.

  3. Blur comes from rotating the camera during the exposure. The hard part is making sure the that the centre of the spin is over the face (or other feature) that you want to keep sharp. The effect can be easily replicated in Photoshop using FILTER>BLUR>RADIAL BLUR - but I prefer the slightly rough look of doing it for real.

  4. Only problem i have with these sort of shots in camera, as well as the zoom blur, is that it forces you to pretty much bullseye the head/face of whatever subject you are working with, not my fave way of composing something. That just me being frustrated from trying that with local dancers here...

Cool shots Alex, but not such a big fan of the green dress

(But not a real Green Dress thats cruel...) [sorry, bad Barenaked Ladies song quote from back in the day] :(
