MIxing strobes. Got TTL?

  1. I'm currently using a Ike DS125 and a ss200 with a Canon 20D in a Ike housing with the TTL circuits.

The only way my 20D housing can live with this combo is if I switch the housing circuitry to manual. I'm ok with this part, I like to shoot manual. The housing let me dial more or less flash again manually.

Question; Can I just conect the 125 to the housing to get it to flash TTL and trigger the 200 with one of those small EV sensor / TTL controller?

I have been using the 125/200 combo for months without problems, always work. Just trying to make it better if possible.

  2. Complication is you are combining a digital DS-125 with a non-digital 200. You can trip the 200 with a wireless TTL sensor if you can find one. Must be orange, not current gray models for digital strobes. The old 200 does not have current circuitry to operate with digital properly.

  3. Interesting! I received an email form Ikelite that says you cannot use a SS with a DS series strobe. But it looks like I can if I use an orange (older slave) with a single sync cord??? Is this correct? Or can I use a dual sync cord with a DS200 and a SS200. (also with a canon 20d)

I have used a DS 125 and a SS200 on a dual cord for many dives. If I remember correctly the caveats where that the DS 125 has to be conected as the primary strobe, The ss200 get the end with the red band.

The housing has to be used in manual mode.

Basically you give up TTL altogether. The housing just create a sort of flash EV compensation.

This was done with a Canon 20D.

Feel free to PM any time.
