Sony HVR-A1U Rebate

Like many here, I have been debating between the HC1 and the A1. I wanted the assignable button for white balance, but the price difference was tough to handle.

The Sony professional division just made my decision a little easier. They have a $500 rebate on the HVR-A1U when bought from an authorized dealer. The form is not on their website yet, but customer service did verify that the rebate exists and should be posted this week. Rebate runs through 3/31/06.

It will be interesting to see if there is a new model announced this spring. Major rebates often indicate the end of a model; although in this case the A1 may just have pricing problems because it is such a jump from the HC1 and so close to the FX1.

Anxiously waiting for my A1 to arrive.

Now all I have to do is wade throught the housing descision.

Sony did not show any new cams replacing the A1U at the CES show so I doubt if it is being discontinued.
