7 Hour Layover in Tokyo Japan

4 posts
  1. I'm looking at booking some air travel, and one of the options has a 7 hour layover in Tokyo. First, is it possible to leave the airport and do some sight-seeing and still make a connecting flight? Second, if it is possible, what can you do with that block of time?

    Thanks,

    Ken

  2. Yes, you can leave.

Yes, you can do some sight-seeing and make a flight.

7 hours is probabally not enough to make it worth your while. It's about an hour of travel time from Narita proper to downtown Tokyo. Add in deplaning, customs, travel, customs return, security, etc, and you're left with about an hour in town.

We did this last year, and an 11 hour layover seemed rushed. And that was with elite status (preferental short lines for security and check-in).

    All the best, James

  3. Hi Ken,

Coming back from Micronesia we had a 8 hour wait in Houston airport. No chance of leaving the place so we went on a 4 hour bar blitz session then had 4 hours sleeping it off. :P Time just flew.

  4. The little village of Narita-san (or something like that) is very nearby, a 15 minute train ride. It is quite pretty, especially the temple grounds. It is famous for pickles. Me, I had noodles. With an 8 hour layover, we had plenty of time to go hike around, get lunch, get a beer, and then take a shower back at the airport. It was a great break on a Perth-Tokyo-Dallas marathon!
