Moving to digital; strobe question

5 posts
  1. Hello-

This may have been asked somewhere earlier in the forum; if so a point in the right direction would be great.

If not, I'm looking for opinions on if the newer "digital" strobes are worth while. I'm switching from using a Nikonos V with two YS120 strobes to a Canon 20D in an Aquatica housing. I shoot a mix of marco and wide, and will be continuing that using an EF-S 10-22 and EF 100 macro with the 20D.

I've always had very good luck with my 120s, but if there are significant advantages to upgrading my strobes as well I'm open to that. Looking for non biased real world opinions from users, not manufacturers or re-sellers.

    Thanks

    -JcD

  2. Sure it's good to upgrade <_<

But seriously, it’s depended on your budget and needs. If you having the money and see improvements (like TTL) in newer strobes go for it.

I'm personally don't see the big advance so I still use an 'old' Nikoos 105, I prefer to buy more lens.

  3. NA I'd keep em, get a HM converter if you must use TTL,

    Nothing wrong with them..

  4. You'll find that a lot of digital shooters work in manual most of the time, so your current strobes would work just fine. You could give them a go for a while and get used to your new system. If you then find you really miss TTL functionality, just upgrade the housing circuitry, which is much cheaper than changing strobes.
