How i pick my "best photos" if I must

6 posts
  1. I have recieve today a call from the president off the Association of Swedish Professional Photographers (SFF), Sweden's oldest and largest organisation for professional photographers.

Short story the choice me (and ca 4 more photographers) to present my work and speek about it in a conferens symbosium that they have one time every year

I am very happy and humbeld and i hope it will help me a lott but in the same time i have a big problem...

i must show ca 20 photos off my work... and everyone in this conferens is a professional photographer or editor, swedish aand intrernational guests.

My question is sould i just pick the ones that i like most or sould i pick ones that i think they will like :-) (and i dont know hwat they like )

I mean photographers look a photo with different eyes as normal consumers... and especially if i am the only one uw photographer in this podium.

  2. Hi Lambis,

    Congratulations on the invitation.

I would suggest picking some you like and some you think they will like. Which of your pictures you choose to show to the public has a big impression on how people view your work. You must think about how you want to be perceived and pick the appropriate images.

Generally I find land photographers very enthusiastic about seeing underwater pictures - but they tend not to notice subtle differences between shots. It is important to have as much variety in your shots as possible.

Considering what you shoot, I would suggest choosing as diverse pictures as possible. Not just your beautiful wide angle shots in the ocean, but also pool images (more photo-journalist in style) and other images.

Try to show the audience the variety of images you can take underwater.

  3. Thanks Alex

I am so happy that you see my dilemma... but its true i try to get as diferent photos as i can , angles, locations, body language, close ups

WA and pool photos... great i just have forgot that i have them.. :-)

I will try to show what i will tell them in the same time. One issue that i will cover is available light & filter photography.. something that is not existing wide any more in topside photography.

  4. Such a great honor, don't forget you have access to all the guys on this site for help. The order of the 20 images is also a big consideration. You can have similar shots but the order can have a big impact. Like a portfolio you want to start very strong to grab their attention right away as well as finish strong. Working the speaking part to match the pictures will be challenging but I have seen your images and you will do great I am sure.

  5. Your work is stunning. Quiet, graphic and elegant at the same time.

I agree with Alex on showing a variety of pieces, but also talk about the concepts behind your work, your motivations and the spirit that drives your creativity.
