YS60 + DA vs. D2000

  1. Hello,

for a beginner setup, would you recommand the D2000 or a second hand sea&sea YS60 + Digital adapter from mathias Heinrich.

the YS60 + DA should cost half the price of the D2000 + accessories.

    thank you

  2. At first sight, the two strobes appear rather similar in terms of weight, size, power, and angle of coverage, with the GN of the YS60 being marginally higher than the D2000.

However, the D2000 has many more power settings, offers S-TTL/Auto mode, can take many more shots with a given set of batteries, and also incoporates a modelling light, which frees up your hands at nights and makes for better focusing in low light situations.

If your budget allows, I'd say go with the D2000.

  3. hello,

    thank you for your input,

they are quite similar in fact, but you say the ys60 has no manual mode, is it right?

Anyway, I may get a used one for a tiny budget, try to learn a bit more whith him and then why not get something more "comfortable"

  4. What I meant is that the YS60 has a manual mode, but only two steps to adjust intensity (full and 1/2) compared to the Inon that has more than 10 steps.

Now, if you can get a YS60 for a really good price, go for it and practice your lighting techniques. If you decide to upgrade later, you can always use it as a backup, or second source light.

  5. hello

Well it's done, what decided me is that they are about the same power.

    I've bought a second hand YS60 + 2*arm + tray + dual strobe adaptor on ebay for €160. I just need a digital adapter @ €90 and I am ready to TTL.

I thought I could use it as a second source light afterwards but I wonder how far from the main strobe the digital adapter can be handled..

BTW, I have found in a corner shop close to my home a YS300 @ €150. I wonder if it is a bargain.

    thank you again

    bye

    frederic
