Housing Comparisons

  1. I have been shooting with Sea & Sea digitals, most recently the 8000g.

I have just purchased a Nikon D200 and I am waiting anxiously for housings to become available. Unfortunately it is difficult to get hands on evaluation of the different housings before purchasing. Is anyone aware of any type of report anywhere comparing different housing types, brands, construction materials, pros and cons etc, etc. I would like to make the most informed decision possible before buying and then just buy the one that suits me best irrespective of price.

  2. Digideep website lists all the housings for the various cameras and did mention some recent ones from the Boot show. Feature on the main page of Wetpixel.

You can also post up specific housings here when you narrow your search down and I am sure people can give you their experiences with the housing or company.

    Cheers

  3. Thanks, I'll get to work

  4. All of the housings will keep the water out equally well and are durable enough they will long the camera on the inside with normal use. Also quality of the final image is not effected by the housing.

Things to look at when you are comparing housings are:

    - ease of use. How easy is it going to be to access the buttons you need to use.

    - customer service. How easy is it going to get the housing repaired if need be? Best to get a housing that can be reparied without having to ship it half way across the world.

    - Ability to see viewfinder.

    - Compatability with strobes you have/want to have.

    - TTL compatibility

    - PRICE

  5. HI Loftus,

I totally agree with William, but one thing for sure

housings for the D200 will very hard to get hold of

as their will be alot of demand & manufacturers may

not be able to keep up. So it may take some time to

get your'e hands on one, but as William has said try

to get to hold as many different ones as you can, as

they are all different & you will feel which fits your'e

hands & is most comfortable to use.

Hope this helps & good hunting.

  6. Thanks guys, I think I'm just going to have to be patient, though I am itching to get the D200 in the water

  7. We try to keep a large representation of what we sell in stock, but I expect we'll be selling D200 preorders only well into the summer.

If you want to get a feel for differnet manufacturers build quality and styling, we have in stock housings from Subal (D2x & D70), Nexus (D2x & D70), Sea & Sea (D70, D50, Canon 350d), and Ikelite (too many to list...). (Obviously this varies as we sell housings)

I'm sure you need another excuse to dive in the keys, right?

  8. Thanks Ryan,

I get down your way on the way to the keys frequently, and plan to do the Miami Boat Show later this month. I will stop in.

Not often on here but just a quick thanks to Ryan for saving the trip in FL last week. Dropped my Oly housing on the deck and sheared off one of those miserable plastic lugs that hold the port on. OK it cost me a new camera and housing but I was due for that anyway :) Nice store you have there and helpful peeps.
