Diving Near Orlando FL

  1. What is the best Dive/beach spot near Orlando?

I'm planning a Disney vacation with the family this March/April. And the wife says she doesn't want to wear the kids out by spending all the time at the parks. She wants to spend a few days at the beach. So where would be the best spot to play on the beach and dive without driving too far from Orlando?

Ft. Lauderdale looks nice. Maybe West Palm Beach?

I've been diving in the Keys--nice but no beach.

How is the Diving/weather at the end of March?

Thanks for supporting my alterior motive...... B)

  2. How about Vero Beach. Looks like there is some good shore diving there which would be great for flexibility and photography. Anyone been there? Looks like you'd need a 5 mil wetsuit in early April? All I have is a dive skin and 3mil shortie for caribean dives.....

  3. Lots of great diving in the Palm Beach area and water temp. in March/April should be mid to high 70's. Don't forget the great spring diving/manatee diving just north of Orlando.

    Have fun Phil

  4. Manatees in Crystal River about an hour and half north.

  5. I'm an instructor here in FL, hope this helps-strongly recommend heading just south of W. Palm (about 6 miles) to Boynton Bch and Delray-not as much dive traffic and healthier and more dramatic reefs than W. Palm. Besides largely cattle boat operators in W. Palm, not that they are bad operators just big boats and more folks. In Boynton I'd try to get out with Watervision Charters 561 818 3196 or Underwater Explorers 561 252 3929, these guys are both six pack boats or for a little larger try Pelican charters, 561 364 7399. All have websites. I am out with a small group on 3/25-3/26 and 3/30-3/31 in Boynton. You're welcome to tag along if you care to or pm me for more info. Have a great time while here!
