Suggestions for Strobe Setup for PT-026

  1. Any suggestions on an affordable strobe set-up for an Olympus PT-026 housing used with the Olympus Stylus 500 point & shoot digicam? I have read and searched high and low and the more I read, the more confused I am on what's the best option. Would really appreciate any suggestions.

I am just a snorkeler, not a diver, but would like to take better pictures. Nothing fancy, just want better colors than the dull ones I'm taking now. Figured I needed an extra light source to accomplish this. At the same time, I would only use this maybe 2 weeks out of the year, so I'm not looking to sink major $$$ on it. I'm hoping I can find a suitable strobe setup for $600 or less, including arm, tray, etc.

Oh, my usual snorkel spots are in the Caribbean, if that makes any difference.

I would want a setup that is easy to use as well, as I wouldn't want to be fiddling with the settings too much, taking away from my enjoyment of my snorkeling activity. :)

    Would appreciate any help!

  2. Hi Kris,

I don't know how much sense it makes to buy a strobe for snorkelling in bright conditions just below the surface. To bring colours into the shots, there should be some contrast between ambient light and strobe light which is not always easy in bright sunlight conditions below the surface. Maybe a filter and proper (manual) white balancing would to the trick?

However, I understand your underwater housing doesn’t have a sync cord connection? So you should look for an optical slave strobe solution.
