I am planning a big dive trip this summer, and I am considering the highly regarded Palau, Micronesia (perhaps the Palau Pasific resort), or Wakatobi Indonesia. I like easy diving, I prefer to stay out of currents, and I find the shore diving at Wakatobi very appealing. What are these locations like and what are the differences between them? I plan to stay at a resort rather than a live-aboard. What is a better dive destination?

From your description i think you would prefer Wakatobi. Palau has some great sites that don't have a lot of current...but....the best, action based dives are definitely home to some smokin currents. THat is why these dives are so good, strong currents bring in the big boys and action.
If you go land based in Palau you are looking at 1 hour boat ride to the sites, a few hours out there and one hour ride back.
I believe most of the diving in Wakatobi is very close and not so currenty.
However, you won't see the big schools of fish or sharks in Wakatobi that you do in Palau.
COmpletely different sort of diving.

Here's my Palau poem.

Palau, Palau..I loved Palau
If I had money I'd go back now..
Those soaring Sharks made my mind go, "POW"
The currents of Blue corner "I Held on" I don't know how.
Palau,Palau...I loved Palau..
That was emulsional (decorator joke)
Dive safe
