Today I was checking my lenses and I found out that my Nikon 105 mm has some strange nasty funguses inside , now I am wondering it is worth it to send the lens to Nikon for repair. Has anyone had the same problem before? I don't know how much these funguses will affect the image quality.
Should'nt be a problem removing the fungus, its a procedure I did many time in my days as a camera technician, the cost will likely be labour since the macro lenses are triple helicoid, it boils down to how much you have to tear down before you get to it. plan B is get the new AF-S 105 coming soon to a dealer close to you in any case I would send it at least for an estimate of repair, you'll know wher you stand then.
Storing your gear with selica gel pack would have propably eliminated this. Pelican makes reusable pack made of aluminium, should be in the camera bag of every photographer that will get close to water, jungle, swamp...
