Sea Rovers is going on this weekend in Boston.
New and intersesting products:
Aquatica displayed their Canon 5D housing.
Light & Motion had their video products on display. Most interesting is one for the Sony 1 chip HD camera. They are playing directly to a 1080i monitior from one of them. The footage is simply spectacular. Their next camera housing will be for the Nikon D200. The C-7070 housing is the last of their Olympus still-related products.
Frank Fennell's displayed his Proteus Housing. Most of us remember Frank as the head of underwater imaging at Nikon. The housing is designed to accept different models from various manufacturers. Now for the interesting stuff. For starters, the housing has a dome port. The very top is flat, designe to prevent the flash from being blocked. It will also retain the camera lens' original angle of view. All controls are accessed by the camera USB port. There is only one main o-ring. All the controls do not require separate penetrations. Please note that the housing in the photos is a prototype.
Seminars:
Stan Waterman did a presentation on Great White sharks off Guadalupe Island. The Venetian room at the Copley Plaza Hotel was filled to capacity, and with good reason. Stan's presentations are always exceptional. The footage and narration were great. He's wearing an eye patch that has an image of an eye painted on it. He told us he also has a bloodshot to wear the morning after a big party.
Ethan Gordon did a presentation on his 10 years behind the lens. I've had the pleasure to dive with Ethan, so I must say it's great to see his creativity and work grow by leaps and bounds. He's long been popular with the fishing magazines and diving magazines. His latest endeavor is as editor-in-chief for Fathoms magazine. This publication is similar to Ocean Realm in Quality.
Lastly, I ran into Eric on the way out. It's always good to see a fellow Wetpixel member.
The first phots are the Proteus housing.
