D200 FUNC button access

4 posts
  1. Hi

I'm trying to guage the importance of having access to the FUNC button on the D200. This is the lower of the two unlabelled buttons on the front of the camera and is user assignable; default is Flash Value lock.

Since it is not clear whether/which manufacturers intend to make this button available I'm wondering how important access to this control would be for underwater work and whether it's worthwhile raising its importance to my housing vendor.

My personal feeling is that having access to a control which is user assignable gives one more flexibility but I'm not sure how useful this would be in the field.

Thanks in anticipation of your comments,

  2. Seems like the more automation we get , the more controls we get, just look at the Autofocus and its array of sensors and combinations. Probably quicker to use manual focus !!.

I like the FUNC button, and plan to use it as flash lock, especially in macro mode

as i want to use a SB800 in TTL and my old slave which is not fast enough for double flash. But then again may just stick to manual

Thanks for your reply. Will you be making your own housing for the D200?

At this stage it appears that only Ikelite are making this control available - please correct me if I'm wrong. Perhaps D2X users could comment on whether they find the FUNC button useful underwater and if any other housings support it.
