Turtle head shot

  1. Thought I would post a pic I nailed today with the D70.

No strobe, no filter 12 meters and MWB the camera.

Yes I shrunk it, cropped it and enhanced the raw in Photoshop.

    Wags

  2. It looks a little red to me.

looks like the white balance has been set to the neck of the turtle where least light hit .. I would orienate the white balance to the nostril area to see if it takes away the purple effect on the top of the head / nose area.

great close up though of a turtle .. very interesting angle.

it's like he is looking down his nose at you, the way those professors at school do who think you are dumb .., ahem or so i have been told.

  3. I agree with Giles. It's a very strong image but the color is way off.

  4. The composition is good, nice impact. Exposure is really good all the texture in the neck is well capture. Its not a big thing in this picture but in the future select the focus sensor closest to the eyes and go for that. The eyes should be the sharpest part. They are not soft but the texture of the neck is the sharpest area from using the center focus selector. Although the reds are present I notice more of a blue cast on the white areas and agree with the others above, play around with the raw some more. Overall a nice and different viewpoint, lots of snobbish personality on this guy.

  5. Steve and others.

Thanks for you comments there and I agreee on the eyes needed to be the sharpest part of the image...but I was shooting vid with my Phenom/ FX1 and quickly swaped for the D70 from my girlfriend, remembering it was WB for previous shots, swam up to the turtle mid water and bang. Yes I over did it in Photoshop but it's the different look I like and normal people go how did you do that?

  6. Kinda cool Wags.... def different

Wanna see my purple starfish from forgetting about WB? Neon!

  7. What's hanging out of the side of his mouth? Was he chewing on some string or was something stuck in his mouth?

  8. Looks like some delicious soft coral to me. Could also be some kind of Anemone.

  9. Looks like about 80 pound test line.....

  10. PURPLE STARFISH !!!

    Better than his 'Rusty' version...

  11. You guys are nuts....

I caught him in the middle of flossing his teeth.

Mike, show me your purple Starfish....or should I say SeaStar.

That turtle was feeding on a Jellyfish. Got him as well with the FX1 using the MWB method  with a beautifull blue background shot.
