Mated Monitor

  1. Hi all,

Just wired up my L&M monitor to my PRO EVO...

O.k the 16:9 doesn't work and there is no on screen display, but it will do for now. I'll use the view finder to set it up and the monitor for compo..sorted until I get a custom built 16:9 baby in a couple of months.. Apparently Amphibico say their widescreen monitor is out NEXT YEAR...

  2. Hi Dean,

You can turn the on the display info and convert the picture to 16:9 on your monitor by changing a few menu setting on the camera.

Display: Go to the Standard Set menu - Display - V-out/LCD This tells that camera that you want the display info sent out the video out jack so you can see it on your external monitor.

16:9 Go to the Sandad Set menu - TV Type - 4:3 This tells the camera that the monitor is 4:3 and that the camera could convert the signal to 16:9. It will make the image smaller of course, but i like to see the widescreen image.

You can decide for yourself if you want to use these setting or not, but at least they are there for you.

  4. This issue had me going bananas when I first loaded my A1 into my USVH.

Make sure all GUIDE LINES and MARKERS are switched OFF. You'll get the LCD display then. I was up all night figuring this one until Warren from USVH gave me the answer at 3am in the morning!

This is an obscure 'feature' rather poorly described on page 64 of the manual under the heading 'Marker Set'

Good shooting. I'd love to heard your experiences Dean.

  7. Dean,

    thx,

  8. Hi Steve,

No i'm afraid Amphibico need more money..

There is a blank at the back of the housing which you remove for the external monitor. You have to buy a three pin 'female' bulkhead lead. which was around £80... Then the male lead to connect it to the monitor for £65 ish.. But thats for the Amphibico / L&M connection. Gates, I don't really know.

DanB, The A1 does not have 'T.V Type'...Well I cannot find it.. :o I'll keep trying other ways. I can get the 'letter box' look on my T.V but thats through different connections.. Just got back from filming Hare's boxing in a field..Lovely weather 2.1oc <_< So I have to defrost my fingers first..

  9. I know this is not the place to sell stuff but I have an extra Gates monitor as well as a L & M monitor I am selling. Steve B)

  10. Hi Steve,

No i'm afraid Amphibico need more money.. ;)

I figured it would be more money. Specifically which cables did you buy? The 3pin Male/Female video connectors(SIMN003 & 004) or the EO Male/Female connector?

Did the male lead plug right into your L&M Monitor?

Anybody know what an EO connector is? and used for?

    Thanks,

  11. Yeah the 0003& 0004 and straight to the L&M...But I had to order it for Amphibico compatibility.

Apparently there's going to be a 5 pin connector for the Amphibico 16:9.. but the custom one I'm getting will be compatible with the 3 pin.

Sorry Dean. On the A1U the menu choice is "Down Convert" Select Letterbox and it will show you the 16:9 image on your external monitor. As well as any other 4:3 TV you plug the camera into.

The other choices are Squeeze and Crop, but I much prefer the Letterbox myslef.

    Dan

  13. Dan,

I have my A1U set to Squeeze. My Gates monitor, as a result, does not show a 16X9 pic. John E. at Gates also recommends changing it to Letterbox. Haven't had the opportunity yet to play with it but my question is whether that will actually change the recorded 16X9 image.

    Steve

  14. It will record in 16:9 on the 'letterbox' mode..

The probs I have is that I'm shooting in DVCAM, letterbox only works in HDV..

    Oh well

  15. If you shoot in letterbox mode than you are not getting the full advantage of the A1Us widescreen capabilities. I think I will stick to the squeeze mode and use the viewfinder for critical shots.-Steve

  16. Anybody know what an EO connector is? and used for?

In the old days an EO connector used to be called a Crouse Hinds connector.

They are used for the Gates external monitor (my 2.5" version at least).

They are also used for Amphibico's lights. The big battery pack under the housing has female connectors and the lights themselves have male ones.

I also used one for an electrically-heated jacket I wore under my drysuit in my "Stoney days". I had a female connector on my chest and a male connector coming out of a big battery pack salvaged from a Custom Divers light.

I love them. They are super reliable.
