I hesitated to order the D200 earlier because of the banding issue, and now it is backordered on BH, and they say they don't have an estimated arrival date. Anyone have any clue when it might arrive?

Don't know about BH, but I heard it is always in stock at Best Buy.

I've been watching B&H as well, and so far no luck, so I picked up a brand new D200 off Cameta Camera's auction site for around the same price through Ebay. Just got it yesterday. Sweet camera!

Luiz is right. I was out buying a new SX400 router and saw the D200 on display. Whether they actually had inventory is another issue....they are notorious for show and tell but not having inventory...at least in my experiences.

unfortunately my money seems to be in the form of a b and h gift card... so im just waiting on them.....

In that case you are stuck... You should sign up for their "E-mail me when in stock" system, they are good at e-mailing when the products arrive, but you should act fast, before they sell all their stock.

Ops, I just tried adding my name to their list, and here is the response I got:
"Due to unprecedented consumer interest we are unable to add any additional correspondents to this list. Thank you for your understanding."
I had no idea the demand was this high for the D200. You should check DPReview often, post a few messages in their Nikon forum, they will let you know when it is stock.

Just been playing with some D200s - we have a pro-day on in town. It is a nice camera - although now I am so used to the D2X it does feel a little like a toy, because it is so small.
The D200 is mcuh heavier than my D2X when you add the vertical grip.
Also had a look at the 105mm VR. I am going to try it in my Subal later on.

Has the banding issue been resolved as far as anyone knows?

Last I heard on the banding issue was that Nikon acknowledged it and said it is fixed in the new cameras, but reports of banding keep poping up. If you want the camera, I say go ahead and buy it. Nikon will fix it if it really shows banding, just make sure you get it from an authorized Nikon dealer.
Also, from what I heard, banding is only apparent in certain very specific situations. I mean, come on, how many of us often shoot light bulbs and look at the resulting shots in 200%?
