  1. I'm expecting delivery of my first SLR soon, a D200, and I'm shopping for accessories. Does anyone have an opinion on whether the write speed matters if I'm limited by strobe charge time anyway? If so, what is reccomended speed?

    Thanks! John

  2. Hi John,

Go to www.robgalbraith.com and check out his CF Card speed database. It will tell you the fastest and most affordable cards.

Yes, speed matters - there will be times when your buffer is full or close to it and you DON'T want to have to sit there and wait for it while the whaleshark swims by...:-)

    Cheers

  3. I agree with James -- speed does matter. Although you can get carried away spending top dollar for the absolute fastest cards, I've found that the Sandisk Ultra II cards are an excellent combination of speed, cost and reliability. Whatever you do, don't buy microdrive cards. They're the cheapest CF cards, but they're also the slowest, and are FAR less reliable than regular CF cards (without moving parts) like Sandisk or Lexar cards.

  4. I also use the Sandisk Ultra II, they are a lot cheaper than the extreme III and I never had to wait to take the next picture (even when taking sports pictures topside). Granted, the D2x buffer is very large. They are very reliable too, I took about 4,000 shots with my D2x in the last 8 months and never had any problem with the cards.
