I just received my new toy yesterday , a direct delivery by Mauricio Handler who was in a short transit on his way to The Silver Banks .
Today i feel like a x-mas day !
What a great job made by Aquatica . The housing looks great from every angle and finished/ designed far superior than my previous N90 and D70 housings. Also very light and compact (compared to D2x, that i had have it in my hands) it looks the same size as the D70
The things i liked most:
- Anodized finish . I looks like the chipping days are gone !
- The camera mounting system provides very easy and perfect alligment of the camera inside the housing.
- On- off control , my main complain of the D70 housing
- Perfect ergonomic placement for the aperture control knob.
- Flash control knob .
- Focus mode ( m , s , c ) very easy to mount and use.
-All main camera functions area easy to handle.
- Memory card can be accessed without removing the camera from inside the housing . I was concerned about the side placement of the door that Nikon made on the D200.
- The groove at the port hole is perfectly finished .
Aquatica now have available a hard plastic cover for the port hole that is a great thing to have to keep housing and ports (specially the dome) clean . You need to buy it additional to the housing.
Also i heard that Aquatica will have soon a bigger removable and magnified viewfinder that can be easily changed for the standard viewfinder from the housing ( i think that it will be similar to the one from Seacam ) . That's will be definitly the cherry on top !
Considering the price and the bulk of the D2x system ( camera /housing ) now that i have the housing in my hands i'm pretty sure that i prefer the D200 over the D2x ( this is a very personal conclusion based on the use that i give to my u/w photography )
The only sad thing is that i will have to wait 2 weeks to try it u/w , an irony for a person who lives less than 6 blocks from the Caribbean Sea , because my job and a vacation land trip will keep me dry for a while. So i will post my impressions after i used u/w.
Hasta la vista
