It was 10 years ago today

I am supposed to be working today, and usually when that is the case I find Wetpixel thoroughly addictive.

Anyway I came up with a great idea for a post, that would allow me to procrastinate work for a few mins! The idea: to share a gallery of my latest pictures, well, my latest pictures from this day 10 years ago - when over Easter 1996 I was on hols in the Maldives.

Back then I was armed with a trusty Nikonos V and a single strobe and was, of course, shooting slides:

There isn't much I miss from those days - except perhaps having flowing locks! And I no longer dive in Pepsi shorts!

Some of the shots aren't too bad - although nothing very creative - the quality of the scans isn't the best either:

I think you should have used a Magic Filter on the last turtle shot! It would have been perfect - I don't know what you were thinking! hehe

But then we will be 20 years behind, right?

i would have liked to have seen some more coral in your shots so i could compare it to the el nino coral of today.

I noticed perfect Bouyancy control, which I know you didn't learn until 2004. It's a Hoax photo thats not Dr Mustard diving at all.

I can not do 10 years but here are my best shots from this month 9 years ago. My idea of a winner back then was if the subject was in reasonable focus when viewed as a 5x7. Taken with Ikelite Aquashot II.

And thouse were the cream of the crop. Most of my Keepers looked something like this.

It's amazing how many things can change in 10 years. The film cameras that I used to take these photos now just capture dust. The Green Parrot Restaurant on Bonaire - where the first photo was taken - was washed away by Hurricane Lenny in 1999 as well as the corals in the 3rd picture. The kids in the first picture are in college and high school.

I sure don't know how things will change in another 10 years but hopefully I'll still be able to dive and capture images - in whatever format that may be.

If I go back ten years I'm gonna have to scan some aquashot photos! I'll get right on it!

I have a box of 10 year old underwater 8mm and Hi8 tapes that I need to convert to mini DV. Should be a laugh to see.
