Sync connectors

  1. Hi All,

My new housing is about to arrive and it will have one Nikonos strobe connector for a Inon Z-240 (triggered via a built in HW iTTL converter). My old D180 will be slave strobe if it works out well. But, if it doesn't work out as i hope i might need to buy an second Z-240 strobe. I'm wondering what will be preferable or work best if i have to buy an extra Z-240:

    1. One Z-240 strobe connected via a sync cable and one Z240 strobe as slave (without connector)

    2. Both Z-240 strobess connected via separate sync cable (have an extraconnector on the housing and buy another separate cable); i suppose this is the best solution but also the most expensive and time consuming since i'll have to return the housing to the manufacturer to have the second connector installed.

    3. Use both Z-240 electrically connected via a Y sync cable (i vaguely remember that i read some serious "DON'T"-s somewhere, some time ago).

Maybe this subject was already discussed before on the forum, but i couldn't find it so far, hopefully someone can give me some good advice.

    thanx, Udo

P.S.: if the Z-240 doesn't work with the HW iTTL converter i'll go for the D2000W but then i have the same question

  2. The "best" solution is two separate sync connectors and cords, so that if one of them goes bad, you can still use both strobes (one in slave mode). If you only have one connector/cord, and the synch cord dies (which DOES happen!), you're screwed because you won't be able to use EITHER strobe. I know that's not the answer you wanted to hear, but IMHO it is the right/best one...

BTW, you're going to LOVE your new Inons!

  3. Thanx for your reply bruce, but maybe i'd better buy a spare sync cable and if i think i'm going to need another connector i can have the second connector installed in a period when i don't need my camera (....i wonder when i'll NOT need my camera).

    cheers, udo
