  1. This is my first post but I have been a lurker for a long while. This site has been extremely helpful and very informative and thanks to those responsible for setting this up. This is the first time out with a 5D in an Aquatica housing and I am very pleased with it and would appreciate any comments and suggestions.

  2. Welcome to the group.

Nice shot, good exposure, and beautiful blue background. You might try cropping the image into a vertical format to give the photo a stronger emphasis by creating a center of interest on the fish. You’ve got a great eye to be able to pick out that little guy.

  3. Welcome to wetpixel! And what a way to start... That's a great image. It is hard to obtain nice blue backgrounds like that.

Even though the blue is very nice, I agree with Paul that there is too much of it. If you crop this in a vertical it will create more impact. But better yet, I would try to avoid cropping and getting closer next time.

  4. Yes like the blue as well and nice subject, hope you took a lot more of it, using different angles.

  5. Nice shot Ormis.

I really like the exposure and focus. But like everyone else I am going to talk about cropping (ironic considering that you don't have a cropped sensor camera).

I can see that you have already cropped the original - from the dimensions of your image. If the top tube of the sponge is in the original I would keep in the crop.

I like the idea that others suggest about cropping into a vertical. Put I think that the format you have shot might work well in a magazine layout - with white text over the blue - so I wouldn't worry too much about cropping it further.

When presented with a good subject nicely posed like this, really work it. Take the wider shot for publication - and then also the tight high impact image for competitions. Once you have got your lighting and focus right, you might as well really work the subject.

  6. I agree with all that's been said here. Welcome to Wetpixel - I hope you continue to enjoy your 5D.

  7. Thanks for the comments and suggestions. Photos had been quickly done for sharing on the boat. I improperly sized them and was only able to get the one to load one that post. Hopefully I have it now and will add a few. Still working on how to post correctly.
