Ikelite iTTL sync cord for non-Ikelite Housings

  1. Has anyone heard anything new on the upcoming iTTL sync cord for non-Ikelite housing being developed by Ikelite?

Last I heard, more details would follow about this time in late April.

Juicy rumors will be greatly appreciated in the absence of cold hard facts. Please indicate which is which, though (fact or fiction)! :)

  2. No Paul

but Sea & Sea have an external ITTL conversion module due out at the end of this month :)

This is an external circuit in an underwater package, much like the old GN controller, and you select you mode or TTL exposure compensation on that

modes are ITTL with +/- 1 stop of EV either side of TTL flash - Manual.

I'm getting one when available, it also has Dual Sync ports for 2 x single cords or 1 if you must use one strobe

Details are on www.seaandsea.co.jp ... under the D200 accessories section.

It is not just for the D200 i might add.

    regards

    Craig

The information on the page is useless to me as it is in Japanese. Apparently it will work in any housing with Nikonos type bulkheads. I wonder what strobes it will use...

  4. Thanks for the information. Sorry to hear it only works for Sea & Sea flash products.

I’m happy to see some progress is being made on the iTTL issue.

While I have grown accustomed to shooting in manual flash only, I think iTTL could come in handy in those once-in-a-lifetime situations involving fast moving fish or drift dives in very fast moving water.

Hopefully Ikelite will be able to provide us with more information shortly.

On a parting note, just one question concerning iTTL. Is iTTL implemented on all the different models of Nikon cameras (D70, D50, D200, D2x) in the same way, or does each camera model have its’ own special interpretation of iTTL?

    Dont be so DARN silly,

of course this will work with other brand strobe's !!, what a task it would be to program and modify all their strobes so as to communicate with this converter to tell it that a Sea & Sea strobe is attached..........Come on... not very likely, the YS90 YS120 have been around for years and lots of people own them.

Sea & Sea would simply not be bothered to test other brands with it, thats upto us.

I suspect that the circuits are identical to Heinrich Weikamps or not HW OEM themselves as the settings are IDENTICAL

Sea & Sea will just say that to get you to buy their brand strobes.

its all about strobe timings, Its simply a electronic circuit. see HW site for information on strobe usage..and camera TTL timings

you need fast cycle, preflash compatible strobes,

    such as INON Z-240 D-2000w/wn Sea & Sea 90, 110 120

depends on your camera timing, i'm using a D70 so i can just about use any strobe that is fast enough to preflash.

if your on a D200 then you need the very latest strobes, Inon Z-240 D2000w Sea & Sea Ys110

Ryan @ Reef just tested a batch of HW circuits on Z-240 and D2000w and worked just fine.
