I'm having a strange problem with my D100 and wonder if anybody else has run across it.
Occasionally (about one out of a dozen shots) I'll get an image that's almost dark, about 3 stops underexposed. When I reshoot immediately, it's perfect. EXIF data shows the same f-stop and shutter speed on both.
I'm shooting RAW, but not enough quick frames in a row to fill the buffer. It occurs on strobe exposures as well as available light. I've been shooting the D100 since late 2001, but the problem has just appeared within the past four months or so. Has anybody else run across this, and if so, what's the cause and the solution?
That's wierd.
are you shooting manual? If you were shooting aperature or shutter priority then the metering is at least correct.
if it only happened when you were shooting with the strobe, I would say you haven't allowed enough time for the strobe to recharge.
Does this happen on the topside?
I've had a similar problem - Im shooting and everything is fine, and then about 5 or 6 photos are just black, then the 7th is fine. Wierd but I just kind of ignored it as it only happens once in a while (just hope that its not those 5 photos of the lochness monster)
My problem is the same as Roger's. The images in question aren't black. I can rescue them in Photoshop but they are 3 stops underexposed so there's lots of noise. It's not strobe related because my Ikelites recycle almost instantaneously. Besides, the problem occurs even on available light shots. I've never had 5 bad ones in a row, but one or two out of 10 or 20.
Well...especially with the length of time you've been shooting the camera (how many actuations on the shutter now?), I'd say you're beginning to see the shutter mechanism go. I'd suspect that long before I suspect any internal electrical circuitry/CCD issues...
Eric,
I had similar problems and it was my shutter. For a mere $300, Nikon fixed it for me.
